March 2020
I have moved the rear clip out of the lounge and back into the garage - I don't want to use up all of that good will :-)
This month the challenge was to fabricate the gearbox rear support bracket. I ensure the gearbox is supported at what I think is the correct position keeping the engine level. I cut some CDS steel tube and make a support that will span the two chassis top mounts. With this bolted in I then create two hangers. I do not have a bolt long enough for the gearbox mount and so turn something quick up on the lathe to aid assembly.
Once the hangers and the support have been tacked together, I weld all the joins again tidying up with a grinder.
Once it has been test fitted I create a pair of lower supports and weld these on.
Once happy the bracket is painted.
I turn some aluminium bar in the lathe to create some spacers that will align the bolts when the bracket is fitted to the car.
