Gordon's Ultima Home

This is my story building an Ultima GTR kit car. I have wanted to build a kit car for a long time, although up till now it never happened. Various reasons - not enough money, nowhere to build it etc.

I had looked around at some kit cars over the years and decided that generally replicas were out for me. There are of course one or two exceptions, such as the GT40 and AC Cobra.

I discovered the Ultima GTR on the web and was in awe of its looks and power capabilities. I wanted one. I jokingly tested the water with the wife (always best to get some sort of wifey buy in for a project like this).

 Her response was:

"As soon as you've finished the decorating you can build what you want!"

Result – well slightly, her idea of decorating is not a coat of paint and a new carpet.

The 'Decorating' jobs on her list were:

 Kitchen

 – totally gutted and knocked through to the utility room increasing its size, walls and ceiling dry-lined, floor tiled with underfloor heating installed etc.

Family Bathroom

Complete refit including replacing chipboard floor with marine ply and travertine tiles, walls and ceiling dry-lined and tiled, enlarging shower area etc.

 En-suite Bathroom

Complete refit including replacing chipboard floor with marine ply and travertine tiles, walls and ceiling dry-lined and tiled etc.

 Lounge

Replace ceiling, partition off stair alcove, conceal all cabling for TV and surround sound system etc.
