The Build

Whilst casually looking around on Ebay I found a yellow part built Ultima GTR, it included a lot of stages and was at what I though was a realistice price. The timing was a bit off,  - I still had the Lounge to refit, although that did not stop me investigating a bit further. It was also 'Advertised elsewhere' and was easily found on Pistonheads. A quick look around the Pistonhead forums, I could see posts from the seller and also looked at his website. From this information the guy seemed genuine and worth a follow up.I showed the wife the advert to get her impression, she retorted with:

'I don't like the colour - it will be like driving around in a giant yellow banana'

I'm not sure where she got the idea that she would be driving it :-)  she then went on to remind me about the lounge.

Anyway we arrange to go and look at it, and were impressed, even the wife acknowledged that it looked much better in the flesh and the colour was not too bad.

The seller already had an Ultima and had bought this part built one as a seperate project, but due to a change of circumstances he was now selling it. After some negotiation a price was agreed that would include delivery a deposit left and a delivery date arranged. As soon as I get home I hastily made room in the garage ready for its delivery.

My Ultima GTR has arrived

Safely tucked away in the garage

I need to make more space in the garage to be able to work on it, I also have the challenge of where to store the body parts until ready for fitting them.

Work begins on the lounge (although I'm itching to get started on the Ultima). I sell stuff from the garage on Ebay and dump what will not sell ( I'm a bit of a hoarder and keep stuff because it may come in useful one day).

One evening whilst enjoying a glass of wine in the garden with the wife I mention something about new engine, gearbox etc. her reply was

'How much is this car going to cost ?  you said before  it would be £15,000, you've spent a lot more than that on buying it  and now you're saying you need to spend a lot more !!!!'

It seems previously she mis-heard me when I said £50,000 ho hum.

A few days later the wife decides she wants a new shed as it has started to fall down and the roof leaks. I think she is having a last minute push on other jobs. Still I look on the bright side, here is an ideal opportunity to solve my body work storage problem. So instead of just replacing the 10ft x 8ft shed with another, I order one measuring 10ft x 20ft that way I kill two birds with one stone. The only downside is I needed to make a much larger base.

Finally the lounge is completed and the wife has run out of other little jobs for me (although she has hinted about a new garden fence), I can now start on the build...
