September 2011
The water pipes are re-fitted down each side, to prevent them from potentially touching the chassis I apply some RTV sealant between the pipes and the chassis tubes. The radiator was then test fitted, I have to relocate the lower mounts leaving a slighty larger hole in the aluminium. I will seal this some how to prevent water ingress. For the holes underneath the car some people have fitted the radiator before fitting the bottom panel hiding the lower nut for the radiator mounts. I know as soon as your remove access to these there will be a time that you need access. Others have fitted a rubber bung in the holes, since mine are now slightly oval this will not work. I will make some aluminium plates and rivet them in place with sealant. That way they can be removed for access with out too much trouble.
The luggage containers were lined with speaker carpet and look pretty cool.
The outsides I have covered with heat reflective sheeting to reduce heat from the water pipes. All edges covered with metal tap to tidy them up. I protect the edges of the holes where the air confitioning and heater pipes pass through with a flexible grommet I sourced from Farnell. This has an adhesive layer that melts with a hot air gun. To get it to flex around the curves I cut slits, once in place a quick blast with the hot air gun secures it in place.
I test fit the gear linkage, polishing the ends that go through the rose joints with fine wirewool and metal polish (Solvol Autosol). I need to drill the universal joints for the roll pins but that will be later.
To dampen down resonance on the chassis side panels I have found some self adhesive rubber sound insulation on eBay, this is cut and fitted. I have to decide whether to remove the rear panel in the engine bay and apply similar in there.
The last week in September was my wifes birthday, I organised her a surprise party complete with Hog Roast and a live band. The we flew to the US, two weeks in California and a weeks cruise in Hawaii – happy days back in the midlle of October.
