To pre-fit the roll cage supports, I first secure the body section with cleco's.
I turn down a piece of steel in the lathe so thats its body is a snug pit in the roll hoop hole that the supports bolt to.
I then drill a small hole in the shaft to fit a 2mm drill firmly, I then heated up the shaft until the drill bit would slip in the hole.
Once cooled I could slowly drill a pilot hole through the fibre glass just by turning the shaft by hand.
I measure the end of the support and draw out a template on cardboard. Once happy with this I draw out the same shape on the body.
Chain drilling aroundf the inside edge, followed by a junior hacksaw blade I soon have the holes roughed out.
A drum sander in the drill soon finished the hole to shape.
