June 2013
I have spent ages faffing around adjusting the clip positions to obtain a good fit. I leave it for a week or two and come back and make some improvements, but I'm finding it frustrating. I seem to be getting there but do lose interest from time to time.
I don't want to skip by this step only for it to come back and haunt me later.
Now that I have the body is in some form of reasonable fit I turn to the doors. I need to shim out the right hand side pod, I'll work out the thickness and probably get some aluminium to make the shim for the rear vertical edge.
When I bought this part built project from Paul, he did say that the original builders tool of choice appeared to be an Angle Grinder.
Remember the Aircon facia in June 2011 !!, I did not take any pictures of the original aluminium cill covers before I threw them away but they were worse.
The upper door hinges were no better and needed replacing. Here is one of the original 'chewed' up ones and one that I have shaped. Too much metal had been removed taking the edge below the body line. Tidying them up would have made them sit too far into the body and look odd.
If you can't tell them apart, the 'chewed up' one is on the left. :-)
These were quite expensive items £69.00 plus VAT for a pair with the hinge pins.
